Amber is a precious stone formed through the fossilization of tree resin. Amber resin is not the same as typical tree sap. It is obtained specifically from the tree Pinus succinifera. The fossilization of amber dates back to the Tertiary period, which means that amber stones were formed approximately 50 million years ago. Given that the amber is formed from soft and sticky resin, does the amber often contain inclusions of animals and plants? principally mosquitos and otras especies de insects.
The amber developed in carbon veins is often called ‘resinita’, and the samples obtained specifically from carbon veins in New Zealand are called ‘ambrita’. Amber is one of the few varieties of precious organic stones. The most common varieties of organic gems include amber, pearl, coral and ivory.
